Short bio

Rhian Daniel is Professor of Statistics at Cardiff University, Wales, UK. Having studied mathematics at Queens’ College, Cambridge, with a Part III in Statistics, Rhian moved to the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, first to study an MSc in Medical Statistics, and then to complete her PhD in missing data methods under the supervision of Mike Kenward. Her interest in causal inference started while reading the inverse weighting and double robust estimation literature during her PhD, methods that apply equally to missing data and causal inference problems. Rhian was lucky that a post-doc position in causal inference methods, under the supervision of Simon Cousens and Bianca De Stavola, became available at LSHTM as she completed her PhD, and she has stayed in this area ever since, including after moving to Cardiff University where she collaborates with Daniel Farewell and Simon Schoenbuchner on methods and applications related to causal inference, including most recently their work on Regression by Composition, a new framework for flexibly defining regression models.
