Short bio
Professor of Statistics at University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), Spain, he received an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Statistics from University of Iowa. He has published on longitudinal data analysis, pseudo-panel data analysis, survival data, nonparametric estimation methods, goodness-of-fit testing, health-related quality-of-life methods, order-restricted testing, spatial statistics, and overdispersion modeling approaches. Jointly with Dale Zimmerman, Philippe Vieu, and Frédéric Ferraty, he has authored books on longitudinal data analysis and nonparametric regression methods.
He has served as Associate Editor for Applied Statistics, Methodology: European Journal of Research Methods for the Behavioral and Social Sciences, and Statistical Modelling. He is currently Coordinating Editor for Statistical Modelling. He was one of the founders and principal investigators of the BIOSTATNET Network in Biostatistics. He was also a founder of the Statistical Modelling Society and served as a member of its Board of Trustees, Executive Committee, and Secretary.
He also served as Chair of the Subcommittee of the ASA Committee on Nominations for International Representative to its Board of Directors. In addition, he has been a member of the International Program Committee (IPC) for the International Biometric Conferences (IBC) in Canada, Ireland, and Japan, and Chair of the IPC for the IBC in Brazil. He served on the IBS Executive Board, the IBS Representative Council, and the IBS Conference Advisory Committee, which he also chaired. More recently, he served as IBS Secretary and Treasurer.
He has given invited talks at universities in Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, the USA, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Cuba, Ecuador, the Netherlands, and Spain, as well as at various meetings and conferences in the field of Statistics.
